Biographies

Headshot of Taylor Andreas

Taylor Andreas, she/they (Assistant Costume Designer, Hair and Makeup Designer, and Wardrobe Head) is a sophomore Theater Major from Portland, OR. Her recent roles at University of Portland include Company as April, Wardrobe Head for House of Desires, and Dresser/ASM for You Cannot Undo This Action. She is very excited to be working on the costume crew for Twelfth Night and is very grateful for the opportunity to work as assistant costume designer.

Savanah Baird, she/her (Lady) is a senior Theater and Political Science double major from San Diego, CA. Savanah is very excited for people to see this production of Twelfth Night. Her recent productions include Everybody as Love, The Wolves as #25, and You Cannot Undo This Action as Shawn. Additionally, The Last Train, a one act play that she wrote, was recently produced at UP, and she also wrote her first full length play called Astolat Manor for her senior capstone. She would like to thank her mom, grandma, family, friends, and boyfriend for all their support and encouragement throughout her theatre career. Enjoy the show!

Alexa Bayliff, she/they (Maria) is a senior Theater Major from Alhambra, CA. Alexa is so excited to be a part of Twelfth Night as Maria! This show happens to be her capstone and last show here at UP. You may recognize her from The Moors as Marjorie/Mallory or The Wolves as #7. She would like to thank Dr. Cross and the whole cast and crew for making this a memorable last show.

Am Blank, (Valentine) is a sophomore Communications and Computer Science double Major from Bellevue, WA. You may recognize them from the fall reading of How Can I Keep From Singing as Jamie! Some of their other favorite productions have been House of Desires as Castaño , Peter and the Starcatcher as Black Stache, and A Christmas Carol as Ghost of Christmas Present. They are beyond excited to take part in their first-ever Shakespeare production, and are immensely grateful to the cast and crew for making it such a delight to be a part of. Bennett Buchholz, he/him (Sir Toby Belch) is a senior English and Theater double Major from Seattle, WA. Bennett is delighted to be a part of UP's production of Twelfth Night. Recently, you might have seen him in UP's production of Everybody as a Somebody earlier this year, or in Company as Robert last year. He would like to thank Doctor Professor Director Lezlie Cross, the stage management team, the whole production crew, and the wonderful cast of this show for making this whole thing possible. He would also like to thank his friends and family for their immense support over the last four years. He would like to dedicate this particularly physically comedic role to dear friend Aidan Brown. Thank you all.

Matthew Capurro, he/him (Composer and Music Director) is an all purpose creator. While he considers himself a composer/lyricist, he also develops board games, devises escape rooms, and writes novels. His musical Sides premiered at the Fertile Ground Festival in 2019.  More of his music can be heard on Spotify and playing at the Orange Coast College Planetarium. Previous music direction credits include A Christmas Carol at Portland Playhouse and Journey to the West at Covina Center for the Arts.  He also MDs at several high schools around Portland. In his spare time (what’s that?) he makes comedy music videos as MatthewCMusic on YouTube and TikTok, and produces Ghosts of Summer, a summertime Halloween convention with his partner, Lilo Alfaro.

Ivy Chacón, she/her (Theo) is a senior Psychology Major from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ivy’s recent roles include assistant director for The Wolves and Anna in Boba Shop Murder. She will be graduating this year and is excited to return to her family and her pets. Ivy will be attending graduate school at the University of New Mexico and will be studying educational psychology.

Jacquelle Davis she/her (Fight Choreographer) is an Actress, Writer, and Fight Choreographer from Portland, Oregon. She studied acting at Willamette University. She loves comedy, karaoke and providing young individuals with the tools for safe and empowering Stage Combat. You may have seen her fight work recently in Salt and Sage’s Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet in rep and She Kills Monsters at Ida B. Wells High School. When she is not teaching, she can be found on the stage. Her favorite roles include Ghost, in Stupid Ghost at Theatre Vertigo and Catherine from A View From the Bridge with Fuse Ensemble. She would like to give a huge shout out to her Fight Mentor Kristen Mun for always providing guidance and wisdom.

Natalie Davis, she/her (Stage Manager) is a senior Psychology major and Theater minor from Seattle, WA. Natalie is honored to stage manage Twelfth Night, her first Shakespeare production. She has held the stage manager position at UP for Clue and House of Desires. You might also recognize (or not recognize) her from Company as Joanne, the angry, drunk, thrice divorced woman. Over the summer, you can find Natalie in parks around Seattle teaching five year olds about theatre and directing them in abridged versions of popular shows. After she graduates this semester, she’ll be attending graduate school for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Natalie would like to thank Dr. Cross, her family, and her friends for always supporting and loving her.

Mollie Goldberg, she/her (Lady) is a sophomore Theater Major from Kalaheo, HI. She has had experience in acting since she was in high school. Her previous shows include The Addams Family and the Hunchback of Notre Dame. She was also in the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) where she played the roles of Benvolio and Julius Caesar.

Ricardo Guevara, he/him (Sir Andrew Aguecheek) is a sophomore Theater and Marketing double major from Portland, OR. Ricardo  is very excited to share this production with the world. His recent productions include Everybody as Somebody, Black Comedy as Brindsley, Los Empeños de Una Casa (House of Desires) as Don Carlos, Matilda as Mr. Wormwood, and Much Ado About Nothing as Claudio. He would like to thank his family, friends, girlfriend, the Redmond Academy of Theatre Arts, the Centro de Arte de Teatral CDMX, the theatre department at SHS, and everyone in the University of Portland theater department for supporting him in his journey in theatre. He dedicates this, as well as all of his work, to his amazing late grandmother Blanca Estela Chavez Alcantara.

Aria Hroma, she/her (Fabian) is a sophomore Secondary Education and Theater double major from Boise, ID. Aria is very excited to be working on another one of the Bard’s shows since she was previously cast as Juliet in 2020. Her recent productions at UP include Company as Marta and House of Desires as the understudy for Doña Lenore. She has also spent time teaching with the Idaho Shakespeare Festival and hopes to continue that work. Aria is very thankful for the opportunities she has gotten and can’t wait for what’s to come.

They are grateful to be a part of this wonderful show but honestly there’s enough music here it could classify as a musical. Some past favorites include The Last Train as Leroy, Urinetown as Bobby Strong, and Puffs as Wayne Hopkins. Casey is also a part of the University of Portland Singers. Christopher Karo, he/him (Orsino) is a junior Environmental Ethics and Policy major from Las Vegas, NV. This is the third UP theater role Christopher has had the pleasure to be a part of, following You Cannot Undo This Action and Black Comedy. Theater has been informative for his coursework in Environmental Ethics and Policy in helping understand how and why messages are conveyed. His goal for UP before he graduates is to see an In-N-Out come to this city.

Rachel Ramos, she/her (Olivia) is a senior Nursing Major from Southern California/Singapore. She is immensely grateful to be a part of Twelfth Night and to work with such an incredible cast and crew. Rachel spent last summer in San Francisco to join American Conservatory Theater's 2022 Summer Training Congress. Her recent UP productions include Everybody as Somebody. Rachel would like to thank her friends and family for their support as well as Dr. Cross for this opportunity. She would also like to thank Natalie for her leadership, Taylor Swift for just being Taylor Swift, and the El Burrito Azteca on Lombard for satisfying her after-rehearsal cravings.

Zora Richardson, she/her (Simon) is a first year Theater major and Music minor from The Dalles, OR. Zora believes that music is, in fact, the food of love and is so excited to be playing both of her instruments in this show! Some of her previous productions are Everybody as Somebody, Beauty and the Beast as Belle, and Much Ado About Nothing (Abridged) as Benedict. She also performs with Original Practice Shakespeare here in Portland. Zora is a violinist in the UP Orchestra and sings as a soprano with the University Singers. When not performing, she enjoys sewing historical costumes, re-reading her favorite novels, and cooking with her friends and family.

Lilly Grey Rudge, she/her (Dramaturg) is a junior English Major from Seattle, WA. Lilly Grey is so excited to be serving as the Dramaturg for University of Portland’s production of Twelfth Night. Her past UP Theater credits include Production Dramaturg for You Cannot Undo This Action, Stage Manager for The Moors, Assistant Director for Everybody, and Costume Designer for The Last Train. Lilly Grey is also the recipient of the LMDA Early Career Dramaturgy Award and the Kennedy Center Meritorious Achievement Award in Theater Journalism. She first fell in love with Shakespeare after writing Twelfth Night fanfiction at the age of eleven, making this the perfect culmination of her life’s work. Enjoy the show!

Shane Ruyle, he/him (Curio/Priest) is a first year Political Science and Social Work double major and Environmental Ethics/Policy minor. Shane was recently seen in How Can I Keep From Singing in the fall, and he’s excited to be in his second UP production. He worked for Senator Merkley last semester, and currently works for a housing nonprofit. Shane likes staying creative with these cool people.

Jacqulynne Sample, she/her (Feste) is a first year Applied Math and Theater double major from Sacramento, CA. Jacqulynne is absolutely ecstatic to be acting in her first production at the University of Portland.  When not on the stage, she enjoys eating copious amounts of ice cream, reading, and soaking in whatever weather Portland has to offer. Jackie would like to thank her parents and brother for their endless support and patience, the entire UP Theater faculty, and Dr. Nicole Hanig. She hopes you enjoy the show! :)

William Shakespeare with pink sunglasses
William Shakespeare, he/they (Playwright) was a playwright, poet, and actor from Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. A dead guy you were forced to read in high school English class, Shakespeare is so much more than the most searched author on SparkNotes. He is also the writer who inspired groundbreaking movies such as 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s the Man. In his lifetime, he penned 38 plays, 154 sonnets and variety of poems. Twelfth Night was written between 1601 and 1602 and continues to be one of his most performed plays to this day. William would like to thank Queen Elizabeth I for funding the creation of this piece, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men for being the best acting company a 459-year-old playwright could ask for, Sir Patrick Stewart for being in so many film adaptations of his work, and Dr. Cross and Lilly Grey for the baller cutting of the piece. He hopes you enjoy the show, and if you don’t, he wants to remind you that he is dead.

Branna Sundy, she/her (Viola) is a first year English and Theater double Major from Clayton, CA. Branna Sundy is over the moon to be part of her first Shakespeare play. Her recent productions include The Wolves as #11 and How Can I Keep from Singing as Stage Directions, as well as being an assistant stage manager for Everybody. She adores Twelfth Night and is so grateful to be doing theatre with this wonderful group of people. Hope you enjoy the show!

Anders Vogele, he/him (Sound Designer) is a senior Theater Major from Seattle, WA. Anders has done sound design for Last Train, Der Besuch der Alten Dame, and worked on some previous shows at UP in other tech roles.

Kat Yo, they/them (Lighting Designer) received their B.A. in Theater Design from University of Portland in May 2021. Originally from California, they have worked with a variety of theaters, studios, and brands along the West Coast. Kat currently works as a full time artist at Michael Curry Design, building giant puppets and other theatrical pieces for the professional entertainment world. Projects Kat has worked on since graduating include the Taylor Swift 2023 Eras Tour, the Grand Opening Ceremony of Super Nintendo World at Universal Hollywood (2023), Awakening at Wynn Las Vegas (2022), and the Opening Ceremony at the 2021 World Expo in Dubai. They help keep Broadway’s Lion King looking new for every audience, Universal’s Velociraptors life-like, and Disney’s various characters magical. At night, they turn on Mago Hunt Theater’s stage lights to bring you Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night by this amazing cast and creative team. 

Theater Faculty and Staff

Susan Bonde, Costume Shop Manager

Sue Bonde is the costume shop manager for the University of Portland. She worked in Chicago as a freelance costume designer and technician for the Goodman Theater and Light Opera Works prior to moving to Portland. She has designed for A.R.T., New Rose Theatre, and Portland Repertory Theatre, and the Wee Sing children’s videos before joining Michael Curry Design and working on The Lion King on Broadway. Bonde has designed costumes for Portland Opera’s The Return of Ulysses, Albert Herring, La Calisto, Il Ballo delle Ingrate/Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda/Trouble in Tahiti, Galileo, Postcards from Morocco, L’heure Espanogle / L’enfant et les Sortileges, and La Cenerentola. She is the recipient of two Willamette Week Excellence in Theater Awards and two Portland Drammy Awards. Mock’s Crest Opera costume design credits include Iolanthe, Ruddigore, The Pirates of Penzance, Light in the Piazza, and Yeoman of the Guard. Past designs for UP include Tartuffe, Pippin, and The Moors. She recently served as costumer for A.R.T.’s production of The Hombres and is looking forward to designing Twelfth Night this spring for the University of Portland.

 

Andy Christensen, Instructor, Directing and Acting

Andy Christensen is a fiercely curious artist-educator who specializes in emergent forms of immersive and site-informed theatre that explore the intersection of place and time. In his practice, he builds egalitarian ensembles that create interdisciplinary, research-driven, and process-shaped performances that put audiences at the center of artistic experiences and contextualize performance within community. After receiving his M.F.A. in theatre directing from the Lir Academy of Trinity College in Dublin and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Andy returned to the United States to invest in emerging artists in the Pacific Northwest. He is a founder of Cascadia Art Project and a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. He has mentored artists in many regional high schools, George Fox University, Pacific University, and most recently at Whitworth University where he was recognized for outstanding integration of vocation in the classroom.

 

Lezlie C. Cross, PhD, Assistant Professor, Theatre History and Dramaturgy

Dr. Cross’s directing credits at UP include House of DesiresWhere is Home: a Digital Living Newspaper, and As You Like It. At UP, she teaches courses in theatre history, dramaturgy, and playwriting. She is also a professional dramaturg who has worked at regional theatres across America including the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Cincinnati Shakespeare, Classic Stage Company, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Oregon Shakespeare Festival where she was the literary assistant for five years, and Nevada Conservatory Theatre where she was the Associate Artistic Director. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington, her M.A. from the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham, and her B.A. from Whitman College. See more at lezliecross.com

 

Larry Larsen, M.F.A., Professor, Academic Associate Dean, College of Arts and Sciences

Professor Larsen has been involved in theater since the 5th grade when he played Schroder in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and has had a life long association with the theatre ever since. He is in his 29th year at the University, and besides teaching the scenic and lighting design coursework for the Theater Program, he is an Academic Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences. His most recent design work, which is over a 100 shows at the University, includes lighting and scenery designs for House of Desires, Tartuffe, Eurydice, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Larry has worked as a professional designer in Portland for the last 30 years and recent professional work includes lights for Don’t Hug Me, and scenery for Nunsense and Company at Broadway Rose Theatre, the lights for Blithe Spirit at Lakewood Theatre Co., Haddon Hall Revels for Portland Revels where he is the resident set designer, All My Sons and This Random World for Portland Actors Conservatory, and Mr. Kolpert for Third Rail Repertory Theater.  Other theatres designed for include Artists Repertory Theatre, Oregon Children’s Theatre, Northwest Children's Theatre, Portland Repertory Theatre, Tygres Heart Shakespeare Co. , Portland Civic Theatre and Summer Repertory Theatre in Santa Rosa. Prior to his employment at the University, Larry worked as the Design Associate for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, both in Ashland and Portland. He has his MFA in Theatre Design from the University of Washington.  

 

Mindi Logan, M.F.A., Associate Professor, Acting Instructor

Mindi is beginning her 23rd year teaching for the University of Portland. Her artistic work at the University includes acting and dialect coaching for productions. Mindi received her MFA from the Professional Actors Training Program at Rutgers University and then worked professionally as an actor in New York and Los Angeles, appearing off-Broadway, in soap operas, sitcoms, and film. Continuing her professional acting career, Mindi has appeared locally with Artists Repertory Theatre, Theater Vertigo, Willamette Shakespeare, Quintessence Theater, Stark Raving Theatre, in commercials, industrials, and voiceovers. Mindi was awarded the Kennedy Center Gold Medallion for her service as the Regional Chair of the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. Mindi’s husband Hal is a professional musician and composer who also works locally and teaches at the University of Portland.    

 

Eric Lyness, Scene Shop Manager

Eric Lyness (class of '12) has had the pleasure of working here at his alma mater since 2015. Favorite UP credits include crafting sound designs for Good Kids and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and scenic designs for 1959 Pink Thunderbird.  He has worked as a director, designer, and technician at various theatres across Portland including Third Rail Repertory, Portland Opera, Northwest Theatre Workshop, and Artists Rep.

 

Gregory Pulver, M.F.A., Associate Professor, Costume and Makeup Design

Professor Gregory Pulver teaches courses in The Creative Process in Visual Arts, Intro to the Art of Theater, Beginning Costume Development and Analysis, Advanced Costume Design and Research, Theater Makeup Techniques. He is also a director and choreographer for plays and musicals for the UP Theater season annually. Before becoming Associate Professor and Program Director for the UP Theater Program, Gregory was an Associate Professor of Costume Design at Western Washington University for 12 years and Chair of the WWU Theatre Department for four of those years. Gregory holds an MFA in costume design and choreography from Humboldt State University, CA. He is the 1993 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) National Costume Design Winner for his work on Three Penny Opera at Humboldt State. His twenty-eight year mentorship of theatre design students has garnered 4 KCACTF national design winners, 14 national design competitors and dozens of regional winners. Gregory started his teaching career at Humboldt State University in 1990 where he was fortunate to complete his MFA, take over the makeup design program and classes, and teach contemporary dance as an adjunct instructor. Gregory is currently a Resident Artist at Artist Repertory Theater in Portland where his favorite of many designs include The Hombres, Broomstick, Cuba Libre, and Foxfinder. He has been a member of the international board of advisors for The Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, AK for 15 years and participates as a featured artist mentoring new American playwrights by participating on response panels, providing workshops in design and writing, and by individual mentorship during each festival. In Portland, Gregory has designed both sets and costumes for Bag and Baggage Theatre in Hillsboro, and costumes for Broadway Rose Theatre in Portland. Gregory has designed for several short films and TV spots in Washington including a dance for the camera film titled Egg Skin. Gregory is also an accomplished singer and actor, and plans to restart that career once he retires from academia. Or he may just garden. His most tried and true hobbies are dog owner and avid dinner party host.
