The music program offers a bachelor of arts in music with four tracks: vocal, instrumental, pre-music education, and general. In all four, the liberal arts core curriculum is complemented by a deep study of music in the classroom, ensembles, and private lessons. Many students want to double major in music and another field, and this is possible with many other majors on campus. The music minor is also a popular option.
Scholarships are available for music majors and minors. Grants for private lessons are also awarded for strong musicians who take part in ensembles. See the Prospective Student information for details.
All students on campus are welcome to take part in musical ensembles. These include the Wind Symphony, Orchestra, University Singers, Jazz Ensemble, Bel Canto, Pep Band, Chapel Music Ensemble, and several chamber music ensembles. There are about twenty major concerts each year and many other performances, both on campus and at some of metropolitan Portland's finest concert venues.
Graduates of the music program are teachers in schools and studios, church musicians, and work in the music industry and many other fields. Some have gone on to music graduate programs and others to professional programs like dental and law school.
We hope to see you on campus in the near future! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Patrick Murphy
