Double major

  • Getting a double major at UP in music along with another discipline on campus is doable, especially when paired with a discipline in the College of Art and Sciences. The music minor is also a popular option.

Scholarships for music majors, minors and lesson grants

  • Scholarships are available for majors, minors and strong musicians who wish to take part in private, applied lessons and ensembles. See the Prospective Student information for details. Live or taped auditions are required for scholarships.

Ensembles – All students are welcome

  • Wind Symphony, Orchestra, University Singers, Jazz Ensemble, Bel Canto, Pep Band, Lyric Theater Workshop and Chamber Music.
  • Many concerts occur each year both on campus and off. See your professors and UP graduates perform with many arts organizations in our vibrant Portland arts scene.

Our Graduates

  • Graduates of the music program are performers, teachers, church musicians, producers, directors, administrators, instrument makers, small business owners and entrepreneurs who use the cognition, concentration and communication implicit in music study in many professions.
  • Recent graduates have gone on to music graduate programs in performance and conducting. Others have gone to graduate programs in other disciplines like law school, psychology and education.
  • The B.A. Degree in music at UP prepares our students to change with an ever-changing job landscape. Music teaches you how to learn anything you want to learn.

Please let us know if you plan to be on campus, we would love to meet you.

We wish you all the best as you navigate this next stage of your education.
