Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

Program Update:
This section was originally added to the Handbook for the Theater Program in 1999. Since that time the Program has added to its accolades form its participation in ACTF/KC at both the regional level and national level. In 2012 we were chosen to present "All in the Timing" at Colorado State University and in 2010 we were chosen to present our production of "The Servant of Two Masters" at the regional conference in Reno. In 2009 we had two of our sophomores, Philip Orazio and his partner Danielle Larson, win the regional Irene Ryan Acting Competition and attend the National Festival. In the spring of 2007, the Theater Program took its production of "Getting Out" to the regional conference held at Central Washington University. Our last show to go to regionals was in the spring of 2000. In the spring of 2002, we walked away with many of the awards at the regional level. Sarah Stockton won the regional Irene Ryan Competition. Bryan Boyd, a graduate student, won the Set Design competition and Claudie Fisher won the Costume Design competition. All three students went onto the National conference where Sarah Stockton won the National Irene Ryan award for acting. And in 2003, Kunal Nuyaar and Sean O'Skea won the regional Irene Ryan and ACTF/KC Set design awards respectively, and went on to win awards at the National Conference. Kunal won the Mark Twain Comedy award, and Sean was given a design fellowship with Ming Cho Lee at the Kennedy Center. In spring of 2004, we also were blessed with an extremely talented costume design undergraduate, Jessica Lynn, who won both at the regional and national level for her costume design of our production of "Honk". This is a great honor to our program and a testimony to the high level of work that we do in our classes and on our stage.

CONFERENCE
Each year our region holds a week long conference at a member institution. It is our goal to include as many of our students in this event as possible. Students who have received an Irene Ryan nomination or are entering a tech or design event attend these conferences to compete in the hopes of being sent on to the National ACTF conference at the Kennedy Center in April. Usually the school gives funding to the program to help pay for a portion of the cost of the student attending this event. It is an honor and a privilege to attend and participate. Anyone engaging in behavior that is unacceptable to the host hotel, host school and the faculty will be sent home immediately.
