Hannah Brewer, Adjunct Professor, Organ

Hannah Brewer holds organ performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Pittsburg State University, as well as additional degrees in art history. Her MA combined her two passions in a thesis titled "Portatives, Positives, and their Players: Depictions of Organs in Early Netherlandish Panel Painting, c. 1465-1509." Hannah is currently Director of Music & Organist at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Portland. In addition, Hannah accompanies a variety of choral ensembles in the Portland area, performs regularly on piano with the Cascadia Chamber Ensemble, and sings with the liturgical choir, Cantores in Ecclesia.

John Haek, Adjunct Professor, Piano, Class Piano

 John has performed frequently as piano soloist, accompanist and chamber musician in the local Portland area.  He has taught a broad range of music courses and endeavors to integrate the various disciplines of musical knowledge and skill in a supportive way in each class.  He currently teaches group piano classes offered for music majors (MUS 131A Piano Proficiency) and non-majors (MUS 130A Class Piano I).

  

Julia Lee, Adjunct Professor, Piano

Julia Hwakyu Lee, pianist, has performed solo and chamber music in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Portland, Toronto and cities in Korea including Seoul. Dr. Lee is on the faculties of the University of Portland and Portland State University. Previously, she served on faculty at Southern Utah University and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr.Lee’s many prizes and awards include the Chamber winner in Niagara International Music Competition in Canada, Gold Medal in Hankuk Ilbo Competition in Korea, Beethoven competition in Wisconsin- Madison, and fellowship recipient in Gilmore Keyboard Festival in Michigan. Julia Lee has been a soloist with University of Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Portland’s Columbia Symphony, and recently with UP Community Orchestra. She presented lecture recitals at the College Music Society national conference and regional conference. As an active adjudicator, she adjudicated NW Chopin competition and Simon-Fiset competition in Seattle, WA., including festivals in Portland and Salem, OR. She has participated in master classes with Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, Claude Frank, Paul Badura-Skoda, Gary Graffman, Rusell Sherman and John O’Conor.

Her students succeeded in many competitions including 1st place in Music Teachers National Association (MTNA)’s state competition in 2010, 2nd place in MTNA’s National competition in 2009, 1st place in Oregon Music Educators Association (OMEA)’s Solo & Ensemble competition in 2008, 2009, Presidential Scholar in the Arts in 2004, and numerous students won soloist competitions and performed with the orchestras in Wisconsin, Illinois, Washington and Oregon. Dr. Lee received her Doctor in Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin, Master in Music from Korean National University of Arts, and Bachelor in Music from Yonsei University, Seoul.

Susan McDaniel, Lecturer, Collaborative Piano

Susan McDaniel has appeared widely as a solo and collaborative pianist, including regional and national concert tours as well as recitals in France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. After studies in piano performance with Jill Timmons at Linfield College and in vocal accompanying with Warren Jones at The Manhattan School of Music, she performed as a young artist with San Diego Opera and then worked as a member of the music staff at Seattle Opera and Utah Festival Opera. Since returning to her home state of Oregon, Susan has maintained an active performing career in vocal and instrumental chamber music. She was also the resident pianist of All Classical Portland’s live-performance radio show, Thursdays at Three, and has accompanied numerous productions at Portland Opera. Susan has been a frequent faculty artist in the Vocal Arts program at the Atlantic Music Festival and in the summer of 2023 will be a staff coach at the Music in the Marche opera training program in Mondavio, Italy. In 2018, she was appointed lecturer of music at the University of Portland, where she teaches collaborative piano and lyric diction in addition to coaching and accompanying both singers and instrumentalists.

Jeongmi Yoon, Adjunct Professor, Piano

Dr. Jeongmi Yoon

A native of South Korea, Dr. Jeongmi Yoon is a pianist, educator, and adjudicator. As a soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician, she has performed in numerous cities within the United States, China, and South Korea. She has participated in masterclasses with: Richard Goode, Gilbert Kalish, Julian Martin, Arnaldo Cohen, Natalya Antonova, Susan Youen, Roy Howat, Robert Beaser, Dana Brown, and Alan Smith. As an adjudicator, Dr. Yoon has served the Greater Portland area, including Monday Musical Club and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) competitions.

Dr. Yoon received her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of North Texas, where she held both Teaching Assistant and Fellow positions, while studying under Joseph Banowetz. She holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Portland State University and a Bachelor of Music from Chonnam National University in South Korea. Currently, Dr. Yoon serves on the faculties at the University of Portland and Clark College.
