University Singers

The University Singers are the auditioned mixed choir at the University of Portland. The group performs 2-3 times per semester, singing music in a variety of styles, classical and popular, secular and sacred. Students from across campus are welcome to audition.

The highlight of every year is the Advent Concert, held at St. Mary's Cathedral in downtown Portland. This annual celebration of the Advent and Christmas seasons brings together voices and instruments in the cathedral's beautiful space and acoustics.

In recent years the choir has toured to the Puget Sound area and the San Francisco Bay area. The Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives invited the choir to perform at the opening session of the 2016 legislature in Salem.

Each year one or two student conducting associates direct pieces with the choir. After their initial conducting course, talented students are selected and mentored as they learn to lead the choir.

The director of the University Singers is Michael Connolly, conductor, composer, and arranger. He has been active as a vocal soloist and liturgical musician.
