“The National German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to humanity’s eternal search for peace and truth.”
Every year, high-achieving juniors and seniors who are working toward a German Studies major or minor are initiated in Delta Phi Alpha. They must meet the following requirements:
Students selected according to these guidelines and their participation in the German-speaking community at UP are invited to the initiation ceremony by Chapter Tau Tau on Founder’s Day each year. Initiates receive a certificate, pin, and cords to wear at graduation.
