National German Honor Society

University of Portland is Chapter Tau Tau.

Every year, high-achieving juniors and seniors who are working toward a German Studies major or minor are initiated in Delta Phi Alpha. They must meet the following requirements:

 

  • A minimum of two years of college/university German or equivalent
  • At least sophomore standing
  • A minimum GPA of B+ (3.3) or its equivalent in all German courses taken
  • A minimum GPA of B- (2.7) or its equivalent in al courses taken at the college/university level
  • Indication of continued interest in the study of German language, literature, and culture

 

Students selected according to these guidelines and their participation in the German-speaking community at UP are invited to the initiation ceremony by Chapter Tau Tau faculty advisor, Dr. Alexandra Hill. The ceremony takes place on Founder’s Day each year. Initiates receive a certificate, pin, and cords to wear at graduation.
