Study abroad with the Institute for the International Education of students (IES):
All French studies majors are required to study at one of the IES centers in France. They can choose between an intensive 6-week summer course in Paris or Arles, a one-semester program in either Nantes or Paris. During the summer, students typically take two courses and earn 6 upper division credits. After a semester, they will transfer 15 upper division credits in French to their major. All classes are taught in the target language and familiarize the student with the culture and history of a nation that was the United States' first ally and whose thoughts and accomplishments continue to influence America's society today.
In order to maximize the contact with francophone speakers, students are housed in French families while studying abroad. Participation in one of these programs requires successful completion of French 301-302 or the equivalent and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
