Alexandra Stewart

allie_molly_profile.jpgProfessor of German; Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Faculty; Academic Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

Dr. Stewart first studied abroad in Berlin during her junior year of college, and she was terrified to live so far from home. Since then, German has grown into her like a network of tree roots and become an inextricable part of who she is. Dr. Stewart’s favorite courses to teach at UP include Remembering Divided Germany and the 301-302 sequence that engages with climate change and other current issues. She loves meeting beginning language learners as first-years and working with them through their senior year, supporting them as they study abroad, participate in internships, write senior theses, and apply for competitive grants and scholarships. Dr. Stewart has published articles and a book on contemporary German-language literature by women and is currently the co-editor of the journal Feminist German Studies. In her free time, she loves to eat, read, knit, and run around with her husband, step-son, and animals.
