Yudai Endo (C/O 2026) and Alejandro Santan (C/O 2028) were selected into the Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) Collegiate Honor Band. After nearly a decade without representation from University of Portland students, Yudai and Alejandro, as well as applicants from all over the Western United States were selected through a highly competitive application process, showcasing the exceptional level of skill and dedication required to gain admission.
The WIBC will allow them to refine their skills, gain new perspectives on performance, and build lasting connections within the broader music community. Their journey highlights the importance of perseverance and hard work, encouraging fellow students at the University of Portland to pursue their artistic passions and strive for excellence in their musical endeavors.
The honor band provides a unique opportunity for selected students to perform with their peers, learn from renowned conductors, and perform at a high level. For Yudai and Alejandro, this experience not only recognizes their individual talents—as collegiate honor bands are rare and have extremely high standards—but also represents a significant moment for the University of Portland's music program. Their selection is not only inspiring to others, but it also encourages them to envision their own success and contributions.
