Sponsored by the search engine JSTOR, Blair Woodard (Associate Professor of History and Environmental Studies) collaborated with Whitney Barlow Robles (Author, Historian, Curator, and Visiting Scholar at Dartmouth College) to host a webinar that attracted an audience of 450 people. The session explored the role of images to enrich student learning and deepen academic engagement. Dr. Woodard and Dr. Robles discussed how visual content can be used not only to engage students more effectively but also to support critical thinking and research across disciplines. The webinar provided insights into how images can serve as essential tools for educators in the modern classroom.
Throughout the session, the presenters showcased practical strategies for integrating images into teaching and research practices. They highlighted Artstor's extensive image collection, which includes over two million high-quality visuals, as an invaluable resource for a variety of academic fields. Whether used to illustrate historical events, highlight environmental transformations, or offer visual context for literary analysis, these images offer teachers a way to elevate the learning experience. Dr. Woodard and Dr. Robles demonstrated how the use of images can bring depth and clarity to complex topics, making abstract concepts more digestible to students.
