Katie Doyle

Katie DoyleIt has been 12 years since Katie Doyle started her journey on the Bluff, but her UP experience has continued well beyond graduation as she stays in touch with classmates, professors, and staff members who touched her mind and heart. Since graduating with degrees in Secondary Education and English, and a minor in French Studies, she has spent a total of 9 years teaching Humanities, English, and Leadership to middle and high-schoolers in Vancouver, Washington. As a National Board Certified Teacher, she credits her UP English courses as the inspiration to ponder wider contexts and to write with thoroughness, careful analysis, artfulness, and clarity. Katie’s best memories of CAS involve its world-class professors. Her English and French professors stand out as professionals who loved their content, loved teaching, and loved their students. Meeting with colleagues in the education field, she can tell that UP’s philosophy is different and inspires graduates well into their professional years. She shares a poignant memory: “Once, a friend told me the admissions department at his graduate school knew UP students well for their excellent writing; this does not surprise me! Each novel, discussion, and research project sharpened my reading and writing skills, and also connected to examination of life, including issues of equality, social justice, and personal development.” Katie is also a small business owner of K. Doyle Photography and emphasizes the need for the humanities in our world, “we must never neglect the books, films, poems, songs, and artwork that give us pause and reason to feel, ruminate, reflect, and act.”
