Every two years, the Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) Fellows Award recognizes two CUR members who have “facilitated undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities at their institution through membership and demonstrated leadership activities.” This award is the highest honor CUR bestows. Joined by Professor Winny Dong, from Cal Poly Pomona, Professor Ahern-Rindell of UP’s Biology Department has received this esteemed award for her work. Professor Ahern-Rindell's work and investment in undergraduate research has been noted as “exemplary,” by Lindsay Currie, CUR’s Executive Officer.

Professor Ahern-Rindell was an early practitioner of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). Additionally, she has worked with numerous students in developing new research. Moreover, she has coauthored numerous papers alongside students, of which have received awards as recognition of their work. The post-graduate successes of her mentees have also been noted as “compelling.” Furthermore, her previous awards from UP, Sigma Xi, and CUR Biology Division are a testament to her work in the biology field. Lastly, she has been noted as an “impactful advocate for student inquiry,” a “selfless ambassador for undergraduate research,” and that her leadership in CUR is “without peer.”

To commemorate her success, Professor Ahern-Rindell will be awarded a plaque to display her achievement, $2500 as honorarium, and recognized at an awards ceremony within the CUR community. Congratulations to Professor Ahern-Rindell!
