I consider my studies here at the University of Portland to be a search for justice. Each course serves as an opportunity to analyze historical instances of oppression, power imbalances, and injustices. I then get to construct arguments from my unique lens that is intended to illuminate and uplift communities that have historically been oppressed. My studies are an endeavor to illustrate injustices in history and reconstruct the past. I am specifically drawn to social constructs, gender ideologies, and how frameworks are socially, and legally enforced. I am drawn to the Student Leadership Council because the role presents an opportunity to engage with fellow UP students and advocate for their needs. I intend to enhance the University of Portland experience for the history department, and the greater student and staff population. It is together, as a community that we will co-create the University of Portland experience.
