Students and faculty in Greenland

Why Study Environmental Studies at UP?

  • Students have the opportunity to design and execute experiments about physical river processes in a new state-of-the-art environmental lab, the only facility of its kind at an undergraduate-focused university in Oregon, including a 40-foot research-grade sediment transport flume.
  • Students have the opportunity to learn about and practice climate change negotiation from a faculty member who is a climate change negotiator -- a member of the Saint Lucia delegation to COP 27. Travel with him to future COP's where you will talk with climate negotiators and observe negotiations.
  • Students have the opportunity to engage in research on glacial flow and change in a warming world, including fieldwork trips at the Juneau Ice Field and the Greenland Ice Sheet. In the summer of 2022 one Environmental Science student spent six weeks collecting data in Greenland on a NASA-funded project.
