Chemistry & Biochemistry Majors

The Chemistry & Biochemistry department offers two majors, each with two options, to students pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) in chemistry or biochemistry. Each option provides solid preparation for careers as research scientists, health care practitioners, educators, and technical personnel in industry, government, and other organizations. The BS in chemistry or biochemistry provides students with a comprehensive background in chemistry, along with extensive supporting coursework in physics, mathematics, and the biological sciences.

Chemistry

Option 1 : American Chemical Society (ACS) Certified BS in Chemistry

This curriculum, certified for depth and rigor by the American Chemical Society, is designed for the student who plans on pursuing an advanced degree in chemistry.

Option 2 : BS in Chemistry

This curriculum is designed for the student who plans to complement an interest in chemistry with an interest n a related field such as engineering, business, computer science, education, or any of the liberal arts.

Biochemistry

Option 1 : ACS Certified BS in Biochemistry

This curriculum, certified for depth and rigor by the American Chemical Society, is designed for the student who is interested in the molecular basis of biological problems and plans on pursuing an advanced degree in biochemistry.

Option 2 : BS in Biochemistry

This curriculum is designed for the student who is interested in the molecular basis of biological problems or a medically related field.
