Dr. Mani’s teaching includes an assortment of active learning approaches to ensure student engagement. One of her favorite strategies is brainstorming with the help of thought-provoking open-ended questions, directed towards students working in pairs/small group settings that lead students to discover the answer, rather than imbibe it passively. She sees her role as more of a facilitator who helps guide the students’ learning in ways that lead to long term application of learned concepts. Dr. Mani believes that human connections and interactions are vital, especially in this changing landscape of education, and creating diverse, equitable and inclusive environments are at the heart of these connections. Dr. Mani aims to develop these connections early in her classroom with undergraduate students, with teaching assistants and her colleagues and nurture them over time.

  • Dr. Mani has undergraduate degrees in Microbiology and Biochemistry, and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology with a specialty in insect Genetics. Outside of teaching, Dr. Mani enjoys spending time with her family, camping, gardening, and making plans for future travels.
