photo of Katie O'ReillyKatie O'Reilly received her B.A. in Biology from the University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Washington, Seattle. Her research interests are behavioral ecology and endocrinology of birds. Her Ph.D. on endocrinology of sandpipers during migration and breeding was mentored by Dr. John Wingfield. Subsequent projects included Leach’s Storm-Petrels, Black-legged Kittiwakes, Eastern Kingbirds, and Little Penguins. She is currently using corticosterone in feathers as an integrative signal of conditions during feather growth. With collaborators across the country, she has investigated feathers from Brown Pelicans, Northern Spotted Owls, and Barred Owls. She works with a team of students each summer to learn about the breeding behavior of Purple Martins and Tree Swallows on UP’s Franz River Campus. Katie teaches Ecology, Vertebrate Biology, and Ornithology, with numerous field trips exploring coastal, alpine, wetland, and desert habitats across the state of Oregon.
