Adrienne Greaves is a neuroscientist at heart, but worked in many different research labs and situations before coming to the University of Portland. This broad experience turns out to be helpful when teaching introductory biology and its labs. In these courses, she uses a wide variety of materials including problem sets and study guides, a lot of visual images, drawing, stories, and analogies to help students incorporate new information into things they already know from their everyday lives.

  • Lab courses provide a hands-on peek into the process of science, and give students the opportunity to try their hand at being working scientists while learning about experimental design, essential laboratory techniques, data presentation and analysis.

  • Fun fact: Adrienne Greaves sometimes puts her dance experience to use by acting out cellular and molecular processes in front of the class.
