He specializes in the science and religion dialogue, process theology, and the philosophy and philosophical theology of Alfred North Whitehead. In addition to several articles on diverse topics, he has published a book on the philosophy of Whitehead, Stubborn Fact and Creative Advance: An Introduction to the Metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead (Rowman & Littlefield, 1993). He also has an interest in the religions and cultures of the indigenous peoples of the American Southwest, most especially the A'Shiwi people of Zuni, New Mexico. He enjoys gardening, observing birds and other animals, and hiking in remote areas of Oregon and the Southwest. He had the privilege of teaching two summer sessions in the University's Studies Abroad Program in Western Australia, and he cherishes his experiences of the town of Broome, the landscape and animals of the western Kimberley region, and the wonderful people he met there.
