Sociology: Social Science Club

The purpose of the Social Science Club at the University of Portland is to provide activities, events, and opportunities for members of the University of Portland community interested in the discussion and examination of both social issues and issues arising within the disciplines of psychology and sociology.

The Social Science Club also serves as the student organization that coordinates the campus chapters of Psi Chi (the national psychology honor society) and Alpha Kappa Delta (the national sociology honor society).

In a typical year the Social Science Club sponsors expert speakers (from UP and elsewhere) talking about contemporary issues in social science; panels dealing with graduate school and job opportunities related to social science; movie nights which combine social science related topics with food and fun; and more.

Anyone can join the Social Science Club and attend Club events.  The club welcomes all UP students who are interested in social science, regardless of major or minor. If you sign up as a member your level of involvement is completely up to you.  You can join and attend as many or as few events as you like.  You won't have to do any planning (unless you really want to).  Just leave that up to the club officers!  If you would like to be a member, there are two general ways to join.  Either put your name on the sign-up sheet that will be located at the Social Science Club table at the Activities Fair at the start of the academic year, or email Dr. Rookey who can put you in contact with the club officers.  Social Science Club officers are always happy to talk about the club.
