Social Work Program: Advanced Standing in MSW Programs
Accreditation by CSWE assures that the program at the University of Portland meets national social work education standards. The Dorothy Day Baccalaureate Social Work Program was awarded Candidacy for Accreditation status awarded in November 2003.
Students graduating from an undergraduate social work accredited program are eligible for advanced standing in most masters of social work (MSW) programs (meaning that students will advance to the second year of graduate school.) Once fully accredited, graduating from the University of Portland Social Work Program will earn students advanced standing in many graduate schools of social work across the country.
Successfully completing this phase of the accreditation process should lead to an Initial Accreditation assessment in the spring of 2006. Successful completion of the Initial Accreditation review in the spring of 2006 would lead to accreditation being awarded in the fall of 2006. Upon the award of accreditation, all students who graduated since the award of Candidacy status will be eligible for advanced standing. Until that time, if graduates are accepted to an MSW program, they are encouraged to challenge first-year foundation SW courses taken at the University of Portland Social Work Program.
