Psychology: Welcome
Our undergraduate psychology curriculum is designed to provide students with the basic conceptual, methodological, and applied tools of contemporary psychology. Whether one plans to apply psychological principles in the field immediately upon graduation, or seeks instead a thorough background in preparation for graduate or professional study, the psychology major provides an understanding of both humanistic and scientific perspectives on human behavior. Understanding methods and principles of the social sciences, as well as those of psychology, are emphasized.
Psychology majors leave with a variety of capacities that are valuable in today's world including: A better understanding of human behavior, thought, and motivation; the capacity to think critically about behavior, to question assumptions and to consider alternatives; the ability to understand, interpret, and design psychological research; the capacity to express themselves both orally and in writing. Please feel free to explore our website through the above tabs to learn more about psychology at the University of Portland.
