Research Interests: Moral and Political Philosophy, Feminist Philosophy, 19th Century Continental Philosophy Professor Gauthier’s research concerns the relationship between radical movements for political change and theories of moral justification.His book, Hegel and Feminist Social Criticism (State University of New York Press, 1997), explores parallels between Hegel’s critique of the abstract universalism of Kantian moral philosophy and various feminist criticisms of traditional moral and political philosophy.His current research explores the nature of the challenge to traditional conceptions of equality and justice posed by feminist calls for the legal protection of women’s sexual autonomy and integrity. Professor Gauthier has also written on Schiller’s political theory and rape law. |
