Drama: Practicums, Internships, and Capstones
All majors take 2 credit hours of Practicum prior to their senior year. Each student successfully completes 2 production assignments per unit of credit. Assignments include set, props, or costume crew; Stage Manger or Assistant Stage Manager; Light or Sound Board Operator; House Manager, and box office. These jobs are completed during the run of a production.
Students with an emphasis in Production Management do an Internship at an off campus theatre as part of their requirements and instead of a Senior Capstone. Former students have worked at Artist Repertory Theatre, Portland Opera, Oregon Ballet Theatre, NW Children’s Theatre, and Lakewood Center.
Drama majors complete a 3 credit hour Senior Capstone during their senior year. Drama students propose a project in consultation with the faculty. In the past these projects have involved directing a one-act, creating the costume, set or lighting designs for a departmental mainstage production, or acting in a department production. Students completing an Internship or Capstone present their experience to the faculty and interested students at the end of their senior year.
