International Languages and Cultures: French Studies
"On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur; l'essentiel
est invisible pour les yeux." (Saint-Exupery)
Why study the language of Moliere?
French is spoken by over 200 million people on five continents. It is the first or second official language in more than 40 countries around the world. The United Nations, NATO, Unesco, the International Olympic Committee, the Red Cross and the European Community have chosen French as one of their official working languages.
In order to enhance their eligibility for careers in international business, education and in the diplomatic service, students are encouraged to opt for a French Studies Major as a primary or secondary major. The French Studies Major lends itself particularly well to doubling with majors in business, philosophy, political science, history, art, music and the theatre. Students may also pursue a minor in French.
"In 2007, I launched the French version PostSecret, a popular art blog where individuals send in a secret on a handmade postcard."
