"After bouncing around a few schools at UP, I finally found a home in the English department. Other disciplines were interesting but felt restrictive around the question "What are you going to do with that?" English gave me the opportunity to study a broad range of ideas since a book can be about anything, from science to philosophy to politics to life. The subject matter’s beauty is engaging too, and so is the faculty's enthusiasm. I acquired an intellectual versatility that allows me to contribute off the top of my head to all sorts of conversations that would seem  totally unconnected to anyone but an English major, and it helps me still to catch up quickly on those topics about which I know little to nothing. Plus, I always destroy in the Literature categories on Jeopardy. My present work? I currently work for Wells Fargo in Beaverton, Oregon."
