Through its 22 majors and 20 minors in 14 departments and through its service to the University’s Core Curriculum, the College of Arts and Sciences serves the academic life of the University of Portland and its Catholic character. At the heart of this mission is an educational approach that combines excellence in teaching, value-centered instruction, and personal attention to the individual. The aim is to educate the whole person – intellect and skills, faith and values, ethics and a capacity for service and leadership.

Students who major in one of the academic areas supported by the College of Arts and Sciences join a community of learners and engage in the highest standards of academic and professional excellence. At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the College of Arts and Sciences prepares students for a variety of careers and for advanced study in medicine, dentistry, optometry, physical and occupational therapy, pharmaceutical studies, veterinary medicine, and law. Graduate programs are offered in communication studies, drama, music, and theology.

Above all, the faculty of the College prepare students to become lifelong learners who are caring and responsible community leaders.
