Communication Studies: Welcome
Welcome to the Department of Communication Studies. You will find here exciting courses, motivated professors, and challenging majors that help you build communication insights, ethics, and skills. We encourage you to understand the genuine impact of communication upon individuals and society.
“Communication” is the key term of the age in which we all live. Allowing you to know, and understand, the dynamics behind communication processes gives you an incredible advantage in the 21st century. We offer you one of the finest liberal arts educations in the nation. We are devoted to helping you develop the communication knowledge, ethical foundation, and leadership skills necessary for success and service. The complexity and challenges of our world demand rigorous preparation—you’ll find that in your studies here.
Students are our number one priority. All of our goals have a common purpose: better serving all of our students. We continuously seek opportunities for learning, mentoring, internships, spiritual growth, and career opportunities. We offer you classes and projects that reflect state-of-the-art insight in building and evaluating powerful messages. Persuasion, leadership, and cultural influence take place in settings ranging from face-to-face negotiation to media outpouring that reaches millions in a moment. Our curriculum makes sure you have the insight, ethical basis, background, and knowledge that employers prize.
Our Bachelor of Arts degree is granted in communication, as is the degree Master of Arts. The Bachelor of Science degree is awarded in organizational communication, in cooperation with the Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr. School of Business Administration. The Master of Science degree is granted in Management Communication, in cooperation with the Pamplin School of Business Administration.
As a communication major, our programs offer you three unique advantages:
- a focus on the key leadership skills of communication,
- access to the best available theory and scholarship on communication processes, and,
- hands-on practice using your growing insights.
We invite you to visit the Department of Communication Studies; meet our faculty, staff, and students; let us show you why Communication Studies is the most exciting major on campus.
We look forward to meeting you.
